Privacy, in plain words.
Trace Chinese is an offline learning app. We do not require an account, collect your practice on our servers, or track you across apps.
Last updated: October 7, 2026
What stays on your iPhone
The app saves your selected characters, learning level and focus, tracing completion counts, daily progress, recall answers and hint use, review history, unfinished lessons, and reminder preferences in local app storage. This lets you continue where you left off. We do not receive this information.
Finger movements are processed on your device to check strokes. Raw finger drawings are not saved as part of your progress or sent to a server.
No account, analytics, or advertising tracking
The current app has no sign-in, managed cloud backend, analytics SDK, advertising tracker, or online AI service. Character guides, meanings, and pinyin are bundled with the app. Practice does not require an internet connection.
Pronunciation
Mandarin pronunciation uses Apple’s on-device speech synthesis when you tap the speaker button. The app does not record your voice or request microphone access. Audio playback is managed by the iPhone’s audio system.
Optional reminders
Reminders are off by default. If you explicitly enable and save a daily reminder, the app asks for notification permission and schedules a local notification at your selected time. There is no remote push-notification service. You can turn reminders off in the app or change notification permission in iPhone Settings.
Storage, backups, and deletion
Your saved progress remains on the device until you delete the app or its data. Removing the app deletes its local app storage; offloading the app may retain that storage. There is no app-managed cross-device sync or cloud backup.
Apple may include app data in device backups depending on your settings. Those backups and any App Store transactions or downloads are governed by Apple’s privacy policies and your Apple account settings, not by a Trace Chinese server.
This website
This website does not add analytics, tracking scripts, third-party embeds, advertising cookies, or an email-capture form. The tracing and recall examples run in your browser; their temporary answers are not submitted or stored as learning progress.
As with any website, the hosting provider may process ordinary request information, such as IP addresses, browser information, and technical access logs, to deliver and protect the site. External links, including the App Store, are subject to the destination’s own policies.
If you contact support
If you email [email protected], we and our email provider will process your email address, message, and any information you choose to include to respond to your request. Please do not send passwords, sensitive personal information, or private device backups.
Changes and questions
If the app’s data handling changes, this policy will be updated to match. Visit our support page for common questions and contact availability.
